Lookout House

Located atop Lookout Mountain in Golden, Colorado, this residence is carefully sited among mature trees to preserve privacy while capturing unobstructed panoramic views of downtown Denver. The home is conceived as a series of minimal single gable volumes, composed to respond directly to the site’s topography, forested context, and long range urban vistas.

Each bedroom wing is oriented to frame direct views of the Denver skyline, allowing occupants to experience the city from a quiet, elevated mountain setting. These private volumes are connected by a central linear bar that serves as the social heart of the home, containing the kitchen, living and dining areas, bar, and entry sequence. Large glazed elevations along this central volume dissolve the boundary between interior and exterior, extending living spaces onto outdoor terraces and gathering areas.

The architectural language is restrained and contemporary, emphasizing simple forms, clean lines, and a limited material palette. Large openings are strategically placed to maximize daylight and views while maintaining a strong connection to the wooded environment. The resulting composition balances openness and refuge, creating a home that feels both grounded in nature and visually connected to the city below.
